Stuck in the Box is a new series of podcast-style conversations with great guitar music teachers.
Dr. Molly Gebrian earned advanced degrees in music performance and cognitive neuroscience, and her book Learn Faster, Perform Better sets the bar for teaching how to optimize music practice. Here, we talk about how these techniques apply to guitar and improvisation.
About half an hour in, Molly explains why a metronome that clicks on every beat keeps your own sense of time from developing, and why taking beats away fixes it. The Timing Game is built on that idea: it drops clicks at random while you keep tapping, and measures how steady you stay.
