It's counterintuitive, but playing along with a metronome doesn't improve your sense of time. This was my biggest surprise when I read Molly Gebrian's book Learn Faster, Perform Better. In this video, I share a key insight from the neuroscience of time-keeping and demonstrate practice with a metronome in a way that will get you keeping time like a great drummer.
If you're interested in learning more about Molly Gebrian's excellent book, see the PDF above.
The practice method from the video is built into the Time Trainer — a Silver-tier tool that mutes clicks at random while holding the tempo, so you can do the exercise without rigging up your own metronome.
The Timing Game puts a number on it. You keep tapping as the clicks drop out, it measures how steady your taps stay, and it keeps every session so you can see your time get tighter over weeks.
