This was the 8th Fret Science YouTube video, originally published on March 2, 2023. With the possible exception of Pentatonic Gear Shifts, I believe the core idea presented in this video is my biggest contribution to the world of guitar players. As of December 2025, this video has been viewed 66k times, making it the 13th-most-popular Fret Science video.

Original description: If you already know the pentatonic scale anywhere on the fretboard, you can instantly access the major scale modes by understanding how the modes relate to the pentatonic scale and to each other. Once you see it, you can't unsee it, and it boggles my mind that it's not always taught this way.
