Put Fret Science on your Home Screen
An icon on your Home Screen is the quickest way back to Fret Science on a phone. Set up the way this page describes, it opens the site in your normal browser, already signed in, and signing in with Patreon works from it.
iPhone and iPad
- Open fretscience.com in Safari and sign in.
- Tap Share, the square with an arrow pointing up. If you don't see it, tap ••• first.
- Tap Add to Home Screen. You may need to scroll down the list to find it.
- Turn off Open as Web App. If your iPhone doesn't show that switch, skip this step.
- Tap Add.
The icon opens fretscience.com in Safari, signed in just like your Safari tab.
Why that switch matters
With Open as Web App on, the icon runs the site as a separate app that keeps its own sign-in, apart from Safari. Signing in with Patreon can't finish inside it, because Patreon hands you back to Safari instead of to the icon. Signing in with an email code still works there, but Patreon sign-in doesn't.
If you already made an icon with the switch on, press and hold it, remove it from your Home Screen, and add it again with the switch off.
Links inside the Patreon app
The Patreon app opens links in its own built-in browser, and Patreon sign-in fails there for the same reason. If you tap a Fret Science link inside the Patreon app, open it in Safari before you sign in. The sign-in page shows an Open in Safari button when you're in the Patreon app.
Android
- Open fretscience.com in Chrome and sign in.
- Tap the ⋮ menu, then Add to Home screen.
- Tap Add.
